San Diego was a lot of fun. We had a whirlwind week and I will do my best to sum it up and post pictures so you can see all the fun. Sorry they are all out of sorts, I didn't want to spend the time trying to get them all in order.

Friday - We packed and got ready for the trip. We decided to take my mom's car since the backseat has a little more room then the Jeep. We had to get Henry's carseat in the car plus everything else. Somehow, we got it all to fit and we were all set for our morning departure.

Saturday - We left at about 9AM. We stopped by and picked up my new glasses (yeah) and the bank and headed out. Henry fell asleep when we were leaving our town and slept until about 1/2 hour outside of Yuma (which was our half-way point). We ate at McDonald's and sat by a picture window and Henry had a good time "people watching". After about an hour lunch it was back in the car to the Four Seasons in Carlsbad (which is north of San Diego). Henry watched a baby signs DVD and fell back asleep. He slept until we were about 5 miles from the resort. What a good baby. We forgot that we were not on Pacific time when we left so we got to the hotel early. Our rooms were not quite ready so we walked around the grounds. They had some nice (and expensive) tennis courts, croquet fields, boccie field, horseshoe pits, a teepee and all sorts of cool things. We knew we were at a fancy resort because the people playing boccie ordered beers and they were delivered in a little cooler. Unfortunately, before the room was ready, Henry spit up all over Andrew's head (Henry was riding on his shoulders)....it was pretty funny because it was not me ;-). We got checked in and we went to pick my bother up from the airport, had dinner and called it a night.

Sunday - Ahh...a day of rest. We needed it. Henry tried to sleep in the crib the hotel provided, and did okay. He woke up at 2 and then every hour until we got up for breakfast. I thought he had potential for sleeping in the crib...only time would tell. We were planning out the week and we found out that the hotel was having a buffet brunch. Yum...we called to find out what they served and it was standard brunch fare but it cost $60 PER PERSON. My mom said that she had a hard time not laughing when they told her that. I figured hey it was vacation so why not go see what a $60 buffet looked like, but my brother adamantly refused and we ended up driving down by the ocean and finding a little Mexican place where we all ate for $35. We spent the rest of the day being lazy and getting settled. We went to dinner at Vivace, the hotel's Italian restaurant. The best thing was instead of having booths, they had couches with big pillows to sit on. So Henry was able to sit on the couch and when he got tired he napped on the couch. Henry is at a really awkward age to take out to dinner. He is too big for his infant carrier, too little for a high chair (he will sit in one for a few minutes), and just wants to be held...so a couch is perfect. I think every restaurant should have them! Dinner was good. My risotto was a little salty, but the creme brulee was delicious. Henry didn't do as well in his Crib this night. He was waking up every 1/2 hour...made for a very long night and a very tired mommy and daddy!

Monday - San Diego Zoo. What a great zoo. It is HUGE and has tons of animals and shows. After a slight detour (I had down the wrong exit and was not paying attention until we were about 10 miles from Mexico), we did our best to see the whole zoo, but after 5 hours...we were pooped. There are so many hills to climb there. That plus carrying Henry or pushing the stroller up and down...we decided to call it a day. I am glad we did too because the traffic out of San Diego was not too bad at 3 PM. We were actually surprised, we thought we were going to get stuck in traffic. Overall a good way to start our vacation. Henry did not sleep well again. Still up every 1/2 an hour. Boo...looks like he does not sleep well in any crib but his own.

Tuesday - San Diego Zoo's Wild Animal Park. No getting lost this time. This park is not in San Diego, but north near Carlsbad. We entered and we had another great day. They have a safari ride (much like the one at Disney's Animal Kingdom) and it was so neat to see all the animals. Henry did okay, he got hungry 1/2 way through, but he seemed to see some of the larger animals. He was doing so well with the stranger anxiety too..until Dinner. We went to a steak restaurant and he was terrified of the lady seating us. I think he may have hurt her feelings. Henry still didn't sleep, so I took him out at 1 AM and slept on the couch with him. Not the most comfortable, but I didn't want to wake up enough to fix the hide-a-bed.

Wednesday - Day of rest again. This day started out with Me, Andrew and my brother playing tennis. We had a really nice time. My brother said he was not very good, but he could hold his own. Probably because he is like Andrew, he is fast enough to get to any ball and at least try to get it back over the net. Then my mom and I went and had aromatherapy massages. Very nice, but as with everything else, very expensive. We went down to the beach and it was COLD! Andrew decided that Henry needed to go into the water. BRRR! Then we just took the rest of the day to chill. Andrew slept with Henry out in the living room. I got a good night sleep and felt pretty good in the morning. Andrew said Henry still didn't sleep well, but at least one of us slept.

Thursday - Sea World. What fun! We went to all the shows and Henry really liked the Shamu show. I think it is because the Orcas are Black and White and they are HUGE. The show itself was a little corny, but it was for kids. My favorite part of the day was the stingrays. You got to pet them (and feed them if you wanted). Henry actually got to feel one and I think it intrigued him. He was so funny. He also got to see the animals in the aquarium. That was neat as well. Sea world also had a couple of rides...most of them water rides and it was too cold. We did brave the log ride and it was so cool. After the first drop you went into an elevator and the whole log was lifted 4-5 stories. I had never seen that before. Sea world also had a very VERY nice polar bear exhibit. The bears actually walked right up to the glass. Unfortunately, even though it was not busy, the few kids that were there monopolized the window! Henry and I were in the living room this night and he acutally slept "through the night" from 10 PM until about 4AM. So pretty good night.

Friday - Legoland. This is an awesome theme park if you have toddlers to pre-teens. Not so much fun for adults with an infant, but it was still a good day. We went to one of the shows there and it was awful! It was so little kiddy that my brother and I snickered through most of it. Bad acting, bad singing, but a lot of the kids in the audience got to go up onto the stage and do something. It was so neat to see all the work they had done with all the legos. We were planning on buying Henry's first set of Legos, but they were not recommended until 2 years old. Since Henry is only 7 months, we decided to wait. Andrew was with Henry again and he didn't sleep as well, but still better than he had been.
Saturday - Time to go home. Randy was off to the airport first thing in the morning. Henry napped as Andrew packed the car. Then was up for a short while...then we were on our way pack to Phoenix. Henry did not do that well in the car...he cried for quite a long time before passing out both in the morning and in the evening, but we made it.
I know it took me like a week to get all this up, but I have been running around trying to get everything back in order! Then was up for a short while...then we were on our way pack to Phoenix. Henry did not do that well in the car...he cried for quite a long time before passing out both in the morning and in the evening, but we made it.
