We were the owners of ducks for a day this week . I had a friend call me to tell me that someone in their neighborhood had received ducks as a Chrismas gift. Then when they got "too big" they decided to let them go free in their neighborhood pond. What is wrong with people? Domesticated ducks are FAT and cannot fly. There are a ton of coyotes in the area...plus feral cats and an assortment of other animals that would love to have them for dinner. So we caught them and we thought we would be able to keep them...but they are both drakes (see the curly tail). And believe it or not, male ducks will try to mate with chickens and they can crush them (remember they are fat). So we had to relocate them to a neighbor who already had ducks. But now...Andrew really wants ducks. So we are not going to get anymore chickens this year and prep the yard for ducks (we will need to put in a pond for them). Hoping that Avalanche and Midnight have a happy farm life with my neighbor.
