| Safety first! They are all harnessed to our roof! |
Andrew's dream is coming true. We are getting solar panels. We do live in a VERY sunny state and it only makes sense to get power from the sweltering, never ending sun. We are leasing the panels, which means that for a small fee (to pay on the lease) we get to generate power. There are 62 panels in total going on our roof, so our entire back roof is covered. This is the biggest unit approved for a residential property. Now, a lot of people think we are going to be generating so much energy from this unit that we will make money. We are just crossing our fingers that it evens out. In the winter, we will make money from our power company, but in the summer (most likely) we will end up owing money to our power company (plus the rental fee). But Andrew says this is a good investment since they raised our power rates again by 5%. This is the same rate increase for the last couple of years. Having this many units, where most houses get about 30-35 meant that the 2 day installation turned into a 6 day installation. Which has been SUPER. Banging, shouting, stomping on the roof, all day...is so fun with two small children who like to nap and two sensitive to noise beagles.
