Andrew and I were not deterred this morning by the weather forecasters saying that it was going to be a rainy day. We were determined to make it to Silver Falls National Park (since we have been wanting to go for the last 3 weekends). We were planning on going early, but didn't leave until 7:30. Then we realized we needed to stop and get gas...and then we realized we didn't have any cash for the entrance fee. So we had to stop at the ATM. So we really didn't leave until 7:45-8AM. Silver Falls is about an hour and a half drive from Hillsboro, and we made it there without hitting too much rain. We hit a little snafu a the entrance fee booth because it was closed and their machine would only take $1 and $5 dollar bills for the $3 entrance fee. So we had to drive over to the campground area to pay a ranger to get change for our $20. 
We parked, and were the only ones in the parking lot. Either everyone else believed that the rain was coming OR we got their really early. We hiked the 2.5 mile loop and saw South Falls and Lower South Falls and they were beautiful. The only problem is that once we were about 3/4 a mile in on the trail the heavens opened up and there was a torrential downpour. We were all soaked. Luckily, by the time we got to Lower falls the rains stopped for a few minutes to let us takes some pictures then only started drizzling on the walk back. Henry was a trooper but was kind of like a turkey in the rain. He kept looking up with his mouth open. Luckily, he didn't choke on the water, but his face and the top of his shirt were wet because he was not letting the hood do its job. He also kept reaching his hand out, I think this is the first time he was every really in the rain. We got some really nice pictures and overall it was a very pretty hike. We did go down in elevation quite a bit to get to Lower falls, and that was a good workout to hike out of...but we had a good time.
