Chicken Flock is HERE!!

All the chickens
A little later than we anticipated, but we have our chickens now!  There is one more adult Hen who will be coming, but the person we are getting them from is having a little problem catching her.  Apparently every since she said she would bring the chickens over, this particular hen has not been in her normal spot.  She is blending in with the other chickens.  I think 6 chickens is going to be perfect.  We can technically get 8 chickens into our coop, but they have a little extra room this way.  The dogs have almost gotten used to them, but we are keeping them separate (so not letting the chickens out of the coop when the dogs are in the yard).  The is mostly because I think Dexter would chase the chickens around and give them heart attacks. We got them all over Memorial Day weekend, which was perfect because Andrew took the weekend off.  He has been working so much that I am glad he finally disconnected, even if it was only for a couple of days.

Henry and Jillian got to pick out the chicks that they wanted (as long as we thought they were hens) and the older girls are the ones my neighbor was willing to give to us.  I am sure that it is a sight for the people driving through to see people walking around with chickens under their arms.  Especially Henny Penny (the white one), she is a vocal girl (and alpha chicken) and she squawks louder than you can imagine. So far things have been going pretty smooth...but it is a learning process and we really feel like we don't know what we are doing :-)  The kids love them and so do we.  But it is a little disheartening that every time I crack an egg now Jillian asks me if there is a little chicken inside.

I will post another post about the chickens when the last one arrives :-)
First Egg!!  Which I ended up dropping :-(
